One of the most successful franchises in all of sports, the Boston Celtics were founded in 1946 as members of the Basketball Association of America before joining the NBA in 1949. The team’s run as a sports dynasty began when the team won its first title in 1957. After their first taste of success, the Boston Celtics seemed virtually unstoppable, winning NBA Championships from 1959 to 1966, and again in 1968 and 1969.

In 1978, the NBA blocked the team’s then-owner, Irv Levin, from doing the unthinkable—moving the franchise to California. The NBA’s move delighted Boston Celtics Ticket Holders, especially because that same year Boston acquired one of the greatest players in league history, Larry Bird. In the mid-1990s, the Boston Celtics experienced 6 years without post-season appearances, and fans saw generally unimpressive play through the early 2000s. During the 2007–2008 season, however, the Celtics added superstars Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, who helped lead the team to its 17^th NBA championship. It’s been a while since the team brought home a championship, but Boston fans are loyal and know that the team will return to its winning ways soon enough.
